last day

last blog

sadly, today is the last day i will ever blog during work hours here in china.

*shedding tear*

on the upside: i am leaving with a plethora of great experiences with awesome people

on the downside: i am leaving my friends

and that's always hard to do.

really

hard.

on the upside: you get gifts

on the downside: you have to pack them...

oh, it's an emotionaly messy day.  blagh.

see you on the flip-flop all my American friends!

happy  er shi san (23) bday to me:

 picnic!

 with propaganda t-shirts!

 and shishkabobs!

 and pictures of chad!

 and potato chips!

 and a soccer ball!

and of course, FLIES! this is only a portion of the swarms that were flying around our heads.

23 is a good number.  i don't feel too old, but i still look 18.  although i have been mistaken for 13 before.

sigh.

have a stupendous monday.

i'm in a good mood today mostly because my hair looks decent.  it's been awhile since that has happened (good hair that is), so why not blog about it.

and that's pretty much it.

9 more days till my b-day.

have a superb weekend.

the following entry may or may not contain this material: the death of a fish, a weekend spent with boys, a moose, an empty apartment, a humorous story, maybe some pictures, mind blowing informatics (yes, it's a word), and other mumbojumbo.  i can't guarantee it will  be spectacular spectacular...but something pretty close i imagine.

first: last monday one of tara and i's fish kicked the proverbial bucket.  yes, Ingrid has passed on into goldfish heaven.  here is her obituary:

we regret to announce that Ingrid M Fish has passed away this morining (or sometime during the night) at Overseas Chinese College.  She is survived by Marlyn S Fish and Fran and Oliver Succulent all from Beijing, China as well as Alissa Van Dam and Tara Rehrig, two foreigners.  Ingrid enjoyed swimming around in circles all day and eating.  Memorial services were held for about 2 seconds.  There was a funeral by flushing, as was her request in her last will and testament.

heart wrenching, i know.  but we'll survive

somehow.

second: on saturday i went to chaoyang park with a few of my students (three boys) to hang out.  apart from the constant stereotype-laden questions (ie: do you own a gun? does everyone in america own a new car? do you think i could live in a big house like all american's do?) i have to say that i much prefer chilling with the men folk here than the women folk.  perhaps it's just because those particular lads understand my humor and i understand theirs and the day didn't end with us having to go window shopping.  who knows.  here's some pics:

 carnival game

if you can't tell, one side of me is really wet.  we just got off a water ride before taking this pic.  i made the dude to your left sit in front so he was drenched.  HAHA.

all of us.  and i think i can categorically say that by the looks of things, my head is crazy small.

don't be alarmed.  this cat is just napping.

me and the prize i won at a carni game (a dog dressed as a strawberry...sha)

third: i had the apartment to myself this weekend.  and i definitly did not do any of the dishes.

fourth: this morning, tara and i found that our remaining fish, Marlyn who is supposed to be a man, laid eggs over the weekend.  after extensive on-line research, we concluded that Marlyn was infact not a man, but a woman fish, as men fish cannot lay eggs, but only fertalize.  so that aside, we also concluded that since the death of Ingrid (whom we always suspected was a little on the manlier side), the eggs were not fertalized so tara cleaned out the bowl and that was the end of that. Marlyn would have eaten them anyways.

happy monday.

what can i say after a weekend like this one?

only that i ate my weight in dumplings, got knee-grabbed by a crazy tricycle man, and basically got nothing accomplished except two loads of laundry and some grocery shopping.

however, i saw twins three days in a row (friday, saturday, AND sunday) and had two dreams about coming home.

the first dream was sad because nobody cared (or knew) that i was home.  i just sort of showed up and started hanging out.  then i had this sudden panic feeling like "oh crap, i just came back from china...i'll never be there again.  i need to get out of here."

the second dream was funny.  this time there was a group of people waiting for me at the airport, but it was some of my team from two summers ago.  the moment i got off the plane and into the lobby where they were sitting, i dropped my bags and did a crazy dramatic run towards them.  and to make it even weirder, one of the teammates smooched me. buuuuh....needless to say, it left me stunned.

sometimes i wonder about this subconscious of mine.  i tell you, there is some cooky goings on up in there.

for that past few weeks  i have been living off of jiao (which is the yuan equivalent of change), and mooching off other teammates because i spent the majority of my mao's on may holiday.  it's a very humbling experience to budget out your week with nickles and dimes, but i'm pretty used to mooching so there's no life lesson there.

well, it's time for dindin.

have a great week.
